SLS Playa Mujeres Review: The Ultimate Guide to This Luxury Cancun Resort

Situated in Playa Mujeres, one of the most sought-after Mexico vacation destinations, lies the SLS Playa Mujeres Resort. This all-inclusive resort is tucked away in a gated community, adding a posh vibe to vacations. With beach access, gorgeous water views, an array of pools, and a mixture of wellness and entertainment options, it's the ultimate getaway for travelers of all ages.

This stunning Mexico resort opened in November 2024 and has quickly garnered positive feedback from guests for its sleek, contemporary look and incredible cuisine. After hearing multiple positive reviews, I knew it was time to explore the resort and experience it for myself.

This past November, I had the chance to visit SLS Playa Mujeres, a standout gem, one of the best resorts in Playa Mujeres, and the first all-inclusive SLS property. Though I was initially hesitant to head to a family-friendly spot, I was pleasantly surprised by its amenities, food, rooms, and overall atmosphere. Whether you're adding a getaway to the calendar for the entire family or hoping for a warm, sunny destination for romance and relaxation, you'll find plenty to do, eat, and experience here!

Here's my SLS Playa Mujeres review, and why I think you should plan a visit to this indulgent, upscale beachside resort!

• Location: A 40-minute drive away from Cancun International Airport, and about three hours from the Tulum International Airport.

• When to go: Avoid the wet season and high humidity by planning a getaway to Playa Mujeres between December and April. Late November and early May offer fewer crowds with typically pleasant temperatures and relatively dry weather.

• Who is it best suited for: With a kids & teens club, waterpark, and babysitting options, the 5-star SLS Playa Mujeres Mexico Resort is a family-friendly getaway. However, its luxurious vibe, wide array of restaurants and bars, and adults-only areas make it a must-visit for adults and couples alike. Whether you're craving an all-inclusive family vacay or a romantic escape, make sure the SLS Playa Mujeres is on your to-visit list!

Atmosphere

Stepping into the sleek SLS Playa Mujeres Resort, you'll be wowed by its elegant yet laidback atmosphere. Picture a serene environment with white-washed walls, chic decor, and a long list of amenities that blend relaxation and excitement. With so much to see, do, and experience at SLS Playa Mujeres, it'll be challenging to pack up at the end of the trip!

This Cancun resort features 498 rooms and suites, providing an intimate yet luxurious feel for any traveler checking in. While for many, a secluded beach vacation is ideal, it's worth noting that this hideaway can be a bit of a drive from popular excursions. When planning a trip to SLS Playa Mujeres, be sure to consider its location in relation to attractions.

Though there aren't adults-only rooms, there are a good number of adults-only areas that you can enjoy for couples and friends' vacations. With daily entertainment options for kids, teens, and adults, there's no shortage of activities and things to do on the property. It's the perfect blend of relaxation, picturesque nature, delicious food, rejuvenating spa treatments, and catchy beats!

Accommodations

Each room and suite offer a comfortable, yet elevated hub for travelers featuring unexpected details for a playful touch. Whether you prefer stylish, airy rooms with ocean views or blissful suites with separate bedrooms, the 498 available rooms and suites can fit anyone's needs. Muted tones and natural textures in each room and suite flow seamlessly with the surrounding nature, creating a peaceful atmosphere during a stay.

During my four days at SLS Playa Mujeres Resort, I had the opportunity to stay in a Captivate Swim-Out King room. It featured an incredible private garden that leads to their cooling pool, a cozy king-sized bed, and multiple outdoor areas for sunbathing or sipping coffee. The beautiful layout, with a simple, light-filled interior, made it the perfect base for relaxing between activities.

Our Tip: Slippers aren't automatically available in the room. Call to request them for a more luxurious experience.

If you want a more splurge-worthy stay, consider booking one of the Premier Two-Story rooms (two luxe levels with a private rooftop lounge and jacuzzi). For the ultimate VIP experience, the SLS Elite (which includes personal butler service, private check-in, and access to a private pool and beach area) is a top choice. Both options are ideal for couples, anniversary trips, and honeymooners.

Something to keep in mind when booking a stay at this resort - there are a limited number of double-bed rooms (about 50 total). However, SLS Playa Mujeres rooms all include a sofa bed, which helps make family stays more comfortable.

Restaurants and Bars

When it comes to culinary offerings, the SLS Playa Mujeres doesn't disappoint. With an array of restaurants and bars spanning casual poolside bites, kid-friendly meals, and romantic date night spots, gastronomes (and picky eaters!) can easily satisfy their tastes.

During my vacation here, I dined at 10 of the onsite restaurants. Each of the resort's eateries offered a different vibe and style of food, but all were delicious! Here are a few of my favorite spots:

Union Steakhouse: This New York-style steakhouse features simple, modern decor with pops of vibrant colors. Make sure to try the ribeye, mashed potatoes, and crab cakes. Don't forget to save room for the decadent peanut butter cheesecake!

Fi'lia (Italian): Satisfy Italian cravings with Fi'lia, a restaurant centering on generations-old recipes with a Mediterranean twist. Everything I tried was a 10/10 here, including the asparagus soup, pizza, pasta bolognese, and limoncello lemon dessert.

Lotus (Japanese): A sushi lover's dream! Expect high-quality ingredients and fresh fish, making the sushi platter a must-order. I also enjoyed the beef tataki, salmon tartare, fried rice, and udon ramen.

Cleo (Mediterranean): This eatery expertly combines Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine to create mouthwatering courses. Unfortunately, the hours were limited since it was low season, so I didn't get to try the food. But other guests raved about the chicken and hummus here.

Caracol (Mexican): Explore a modern twist on Mexican cuisine at this sleek restaurant that's perfect for date night! We loved the sea bass, especially with their margaritas. Other must-tries include ribeye and octopus tacos, Azteca soup, and sope pibil (tender marinated meat on a thick, lightly crisped corn masa base).

Twiggy (Mediterranean Beach Club & Restaurant): Perfect for a laidback yet indulgent lunch with friends or partners! Try the sea bass carpaccio, beef tartare, burrata salad, and angus beef burger paired with the Watermelon Splash or Garden Spritz cocktails.

Bungalow (Beach Casual): Grab the family and head here for casual beachside eats! Here, you'll find comforting favorites like burgers, potato wedges, nachos, guacamole, fish of the day, and more!

Verde (Juice Bar): The perfect healthy pick-me-up between activities! Choose between freshly squeezed juices and delicious smoothies. My pick? The chocolate protein smoothie!

The Press: If you're a coffee or sweet treat fan, you'll want to stop at The Press. It's the perfect spot for catching up on caffeine. Pair their lattes or cappuccinos with ice cream or cookies for a real treat.

The Market: Don’t skip out on The Market for meals. This buffet uses local ingredients to create yummy dishes, both local and global. Enjoy breakfast here year-round, plus lunch and dinner during the busy season. It’s a great way to fill up before the day’s activities!

Barracuda: An ideal spot for dining with kids. It's a seasonal restaurant that serves lunch options like chicken tenders and burgers. Don't forget to grab ice cream while you're here!

Our Tip: If you're planning on visiting in 2026, you're in luck. There's a new Indian restaurant opening next year that's sure to offer bold, flavorful meals. Uncovering exciting information like this is one of my favorite parts of visiting resorts, especially when I get to share it with my clients!

Bars

Who says you need to leave the SLS Playa Mujeres Resort for an amazing drink? The bars and lounges onsite offer fun vibes, chic cocktails, and unforgettable views!

Smoke & Mirrors: Head here for an elegant bar experience. Stunning water views, decor inspired by South American speakeasies, and premium cigars make this outdoor cigar bar a must-try.

Monkey Bar: My top pick at the resort for a nightcap or casual drink. Enjoy an airy, welcoming environment as you sip an SLS Martini (my favorite drink on the resort).

Golden Bar: The best spot for great marina views and golden hour photos. It's the perfect spot for a date night or a girls’ night out. Try the Violet Sunset here - it's my favorite!

Hudson Tavern: For a relaxed gathering or guys' night, head here. You'll find a laidback sports bar with a pool table, hookah, TVs, and amazing brisket fries.

Our Tip: You'll find hookah available at multiple restaurants and bars onsite. Head to the following to enjoy: Monkey Bar, Smoke & Mirrors, Golden Hour Bar, and Cleo.

Amenities and Experiences

While some resorts cater to specific types of activities, such as relaxation, adventure, or partying, the SLS Playa Mujeres truly has something for everyone. For adults visiting, there are two adult-only areas: Twiggy and Privilege. Twiggy includes an adults-only pool area complete with a jacuzzi, swim-up bar, cabana rentals, and a restaurant that only adults can enjoy. Privilege is a party venue/event space that's only open during high season. Here, you can lounge in an adults-only pool area or dance the night away to pulsating electro music.

My favorite amenity at this resort was the Ciel Spa, a 20,000-square-foot statement spa offering hydrotherapy, a spa pool, sauna, steam room, relaxation room, and a menu of treatments. I chose an 80-minute deep tissue massage during my stay, and it was well worth every dollar! You can also book waxes, haircuts, facials, and other miscellaneous treatments. Opt for standalone treatments, hydrotherapy packages, or a day pass for access to the hydrotherapy area without a treatment.

Those traveling with kids and teens will find plenty of activities to keep the family entertained during a stay, including the kids' (ages 4-12) and teens' (ages 10-17) clubs, where younger travelers can take classes, play games, and make new friends. Additional family-friendly options include fun daily activities like Jenga tournaments, an adventure course, and sports camps. Guests can also enjoy a 24/7 gym, the beach gym, and a waterpark. For date nights, you can book babysitting services to ensure your evening plans run smoothly.

Our Tip: Download the SLS Playa Mujeres Resort app before you arrive. It allows you to easily view the daily schedule, check out restaurant menus ahead of time, and access a map to the resort.

Other Must-do Activities & Entertainment:

• Explore seasonal pop-ups and poolside experiences

• Watch captivating Mayan folklore or circus shows

• Test your singing skills at karaoke

• Dance at family-friendly DJ parties or adults-only late-night DJ parties

• Catch a family movie in the theater (nearly every day at 4 pm)

• Sign younger travelers up for kids’ and teens’ club activities or enjoy the waterpark at the family pool

Weddings and Events

Breathtaking views of the ocean, mouthwatering culinary options, elegant decor, and a top-tier spa - what more could you want from a wedding or event venue? This resort features an impressive seven total wedding venues, ranging from intimate 20-guest receptions to a 700-guest ballroom. With only one wedding booked per day, travelers will find the SLS Playa Mujeres a dream for destination weddings!

One of the most exciting characteristics of the event/wedding venues onsite is the variety of locations available. For a more elegant event, travelers can book the Cigar Bar Lounge, Golden Hour Bar, or one of the ballrooms. The Jungle Beach and Central Beach settings offer exquisite views of nature and the opportunity to celebrate along the warm, sandy shoreline. Elevate any event by booking the onsite movie theater, which is available for private cinema experiences.

While seeing the words “family-friendly resort” may typically deter you from booking an adult group or romantic getaway, the SLS Playa Mujeres is more than worth a stay. With its adults-only areas, must-visit spa, gorgeous setting, high-end rooms and amenities, and a plethora of delicious food, drinks, and entertainment, it'll easily become your new go-to spot.
